ATP: Yannick Maden retires after big fight in Montpellier

Qualifier Yannick Maden (Stuttgart) missed the eighth-finals at the ATP tournament in Montpellier. The world rankings-142. lost his first-round match against Gilles Simon (France) after 2:22 hours with 1:6,6:4,6:7 (3:7).

The 28-year-old, who had reached the main field of an ATP tournament for the first time this year, is still waiting for his second victory on the Tour. In the second round Simon will face tournament favourite David Goffin from Belgium.

The day before, Mischa Zverev (Hamburg) had also missed the next round with a 4-6,4-6 defeat of Benoit Paire (France). On Wednesday, Dustin Brown (Winsen/Aller) will be the last German to enter the 560,000 Euro Hartplatzturnier with his first-round match against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.
