ATP: knocked out.

Yannick Hanfmann was eliminated in the first round of the ATP tournament in Quito against a local hero.

The 26-year-old Karlsruher lost 6:7 (5:7), 3:6 against Roberto Quiroz on Wednesday at the $561,345 clay court tournament. The darling of the public from Ecuador, the number 282 in the ATP ranking, had moved into the main field with a wildcard. After a rain break, the match had been interrupted on the previous day at 5:4 for Hanfmann.

The world rankings-113. left-hander Quiroz lost his serve three times, but was only able to break once. Hanfmann had also lost his previous opening games at the Challenger events in Newport Beach and Dallas.
