ATP: Elbow injury: Kyrgios missing in Rotterdam

Nick Kyrgios’ debut in the Dutch port metropolis is simply not meant to be: Nick Kyrgios cannot serve at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Rotterdam due to an elbow injury.

Tournament director Richard Krajicek is currently experiencing an alternating bath of emotions. While the former Wimbledon champion was proud to announce the surprising participation of Roger Federer on Wednesday, he has to digest a bitter rejection.

The crowd-puller Nick Kyrgios canceled his start at the indoor hard court tournament because of a bruise on the right elbow. It is the same injury that struck the Australian during the Davis Cup match against Germany. In Brisbane, Kyrgios had held on to Jan-Lennard Struff before he was defeated in three sets in Alexander Zverev’s decisive match.

The debut in Rotterdam must therefore be postponed for another year. In 2016, Kyrgios had also withdrawn due to an elbow injury. Last year he turned the tournament down because a celebrity match at the NBA All Star Weekend seemed more tempting.

Kyrgios expressed his regret via Twitter:”He had tried everything to get fit, but unfortunately there wasn’t enough time. By 2019 things will finally work out with the premiere in the Ahoy-Arena.
