Fed Cup: Serena Williams about to make a comeback

Former world number one Serena Williams is about to make her official comeback in the tennis circus.

The 23-times Grand Slam winner is scheduled for the double after her one-year break in the Fed Cup match between the USA and the Netherlands. That was the result of the draw on Friday. Daughter Alexis Olympia was born at the beginning of September.

Williams had her last official match last year in the finals of the Australian Open against her sister Venus. Shortly before New Year’s Eve, Williams tested her form in Abu Dhabi against French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko, but decided after a close defeat against defending her title in Melbourne.

For the last time so far, Serena Williams had been in Italy for the Fed Cup team of the USA in April 2015. Williams’ double partner is Lauren Davis.

In the singles, Venus Williams (against Arantxa Rus) and CoCo Vandeweghe (against Richel Hogenkamp) will play first.
