ATP: Lucas Pouille wins home tournament in Montpellier

Lucas Pouille has won the ATP-250 tournament in Montpellier. The 23-year-old won in the purely French final against Richard Gasquet 7-6 (2) and 6-4. It was the fifth tournament win in Pouille’s career.

On the way to the tournament victory, Pouille fought off two match points in the semi-final against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at a score of 1:6 3:5. A short time later, Tsonga had to give up because of problems in the Achilles tendon.

It was the third time in the past ten months that Pouille has won a tournament after defended match ball. In Stuttgart he managed this feat against Jan-Lennard Struff, while in Budapest Jiri Vesely could not close the match.
