Fed Cup: Tatjana Maria takes Germany to the top with a 2:1 lead

Germany are missing only one point to enter the semi-final of the Fed Cup 2018: Tatjana Maria defeated substitute Vera Lapko in three sets and set the score at 2:1 for the team of Neo captain Jens Gerlach.

In the end, it was mainly a matter of nerves in Minsk – and the experienced Tatjana Maria had an easy game with 19-year-old Vera Lapko, who had the injured Aliaksandra Sasnovich, in the third set: Lapko tried to push the tempo, Maria skillfully defended herself and forced the Belarussian to do almost every point several times. And because things were going so well, Tatjana Maria also set off on the other side of the stage with offensive accents, so that she was able to win the deciding set in no time at all.

6:4,5:7 and 6:0 the final result for Germany. Antonia Lottner, who had sensationally defeated Sasnovich on the first day, has the chance to bring the German team into the final round by beating Aryna Sabalenka. If this doesn’t work, Jens Gerlach has a strong double with Anna-Lena Grönefeld and Anna-Lena Friedsam.
