Germany’s top player Alexander Zverev has entered the second round of the ATP tournament in Rotterdam with ease. The 20-year-old Hamburg player, who has been in fourth place on the world rankings since Monday, won his opening match against the Spaniard David Ferrer 6-4,6-3.
The decisive break was achieved by Germany’s number one in the seventh game of the second round. In the following game Ferrer was unable to use three chances to equalize for the next game and then to give up his serve again.
The third seed Zverev will then face either Joao Sousa (Portugal) or Lucky Loser Andreas Seppi (Italy) in the round of sixteen.
Previously, his brother Mischa Zverev had failed at the tournament in the Netherlands due to the Czech Tomas Berdych 5:7,3:6, who was listed in sixth place. For the 30-year-old, it was his fifth defeat in his sixth match of the year.
Florian Mayer from Bayreuth lost 6:7 (4:7), 4:6 against local hero Federico Delbonis at the ATP tournament in Buenos Aires. A week earlier, the 34-year-old had also failed in his opening match in Sofia.
