Angelique Kerber takes part for the first time in her preparation for Wimbledon at the Mallorca Open (18. till 24. June 2018). The 30-year-old Kiel based on her promising results at the beginning of the year in Wimbledon, Germany’s 30 year-old rider sees the greatest chances of winning her third Grand Slam title.
In Mallorca, Kerber is the second top 10 player in the tournament alongside French Caroline Garcia. Last year Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe) had only failed in the final on Latvian Anastasija Sevastova.
“I’m really looking forward to the tournament with great anticipation. I love the island of Mallorca and the beautiful grass pitches in Santa Ponsa, where I had the chance to prepare for Wimbledon in the past few years,”said the ninth in the world rankings. Kerber had already trained on the course in 2016 and only then failed in Wimbledon in the final with Serena Williams.
After a disappointing year in 2017, Kerber had recently regained his former strength and celebrated her first tournament victory since the US Open 2016 at the WTA tournament in Sydney. At the Australian Open she only failed in the semi-finals due to the then world number one Simona Halep.
