Julia Görges returns to the German Fed Cup team in the semi-final against the Czech Republic in April. This was confirmed by the world rankings nostalgia at the edge of the WTA tournament in Doha.

“Yes, I’ll definitely be there,”said the 29-year-old in the tennisnet interview. Görges had paused in the opening match of the DTB team against hosts Belarus in Minsk (3-2) as well as Angelique Kerber. Without their two top ten players, who had always been available for the German team in the past few years, the team of the new captain Jens Gerlach managed the big surprise in the duel with last year’s finalist.
Görges, who reached the second round on Tuesday at the Premier 5 tournament in Doha with a sovereign 6-1,7-5 defeat of Czech Lucie Safarova, stressed after the sovereign opening in Qatar:”I think whoever is good at me knows that I like playing in the Fed Cup for my country very much. It’s always something special.”
The Auckland winner and new number ten in the ranking does not see a favourite, however,”All four semi-finalists have the same chances. But it’s nice to play at home. And it’s great for our fans that we are playing against a tennis nation like the Czech Republic. That’s really the best sport you can expect,”said Görges, who is looking forward to another Fed Cup test in Doha on Wednesday. After Safarova, her Czech compatriot Barbora Strycova is now the next opponent of Bad Oldelsloerin in the palm-fringed Khalifa International Tennis Complex.
