WTA: Conchita Martinez now full-time on Muguruza’s side

Permanent reinforcement for Garbine Muguruza: Conchita Martinez, Spanish Fed Cup boss, will accompany the two-time Major Winner alongside regular coach Sam Sumyk with immediate effect.

The fans of Garbine Muguruza’s fans are still very familiar with the pictures of the Wimbledon 2017 tournament: Conchita Martinez, instead of regular coach Sam Sumyk, took a seat in the box of the later winner. She had just celebrated her greatest success at Church Road in 1994, in the final against record winner Martina Navratilova.

In the coming week Martinez will be seen more often on the fringes of WTA matches with the participation of Garbine Muguruza – like Sam Sumyk. This was explained by the two-time major champion from Spain on the fringes of the WTA tournament in Doha.

“This will be a new experience for me,”said Muguruza,”Conchita and I, we’ve known each other since I was a little child, and she’s been helping me in the background from time to time,” and then back in Wimbledon, where Muguruza beat Venus Williams in the final.

Garbine Muguruza’s start into the year 2018 didn’t go well for Garbine Muguruza: In Brisbane and Sydney she had to give up for different reasons or could not compete in one match, but at the Australian Open the early end came against Su-Wi Hsieh. This does not change anything about the high standards and goals of the Spanish player, who was also briefly at the top of the WTA charts last year.

“I still want to stand in the big finals and fight again for the number one spot,”Muguruza continues,”I don’t have to fear or hide anyone. I have to set myself the most difficult goals, because I have already been there. And that helps me get back there.”
