From Ulrike Weinrich from Doha

For Görges it was his twelfth victory in the 14th round. Game of the season. After another sovereign performance at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex she turned her first match point after 65 minutes. Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) and Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic (No. 16), who has been seeded third in the quarter-finals, are the opponents on Friday.

Görges, who already won this year’s event in Auckland and reached the semi-finals in St. Görges. Petersburg, did not allow a single break point in the duel with left-hander Buzarnescu. The world rankings-43. from Bucharest had declassified French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia/no. 6)6:1,6:3 the day before.

Görges was warned, but once again she could count on her serve. She is the only female player so far to have reached the magical limit of 100 aces (currently 105) this year:”I notice that my service has improved, especially in terms of speed,”said the Fed Cup player:”But I’m also able to vary. Nevertheless, I still see potential on the serve.”

Against Buzarnescu, Görges won 80 percent of the points in 80 percent of the cases when the first service came. The Romanian woman, however, only had 63 percent. Appropriately enough, with a service winner, the German number two won the first set after a good half an hour. She could not be deterred by the fact that the match was played again on Court 1, a place in the shade of the stadium, which is separated from Court 2 only by a net. However, on Friday “Jule” will be allowed to play at the Centre Court.

On Thursday evening, the two-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber (Kiel/No. 8) also played for a place in the quarter-finals of the $2.897 hard court event.
