The first semi-final match at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Rotterdam is certain: Grigor Dimitrov won in two sets against Andrey Rublev and will meet David Goffin on Saturday.
No surprises in the lower half of the tableau: After the Belgian David Goffin, in fourth place, benefited from Tomas Berdych’s retreat due to illness, Grigor Dimitrov followed suit against Andrey Rublev.
The number two of the seed list needed 76 minutes to put the 20-year-old Russian in 6:3 and 6:4. Dimitrov, whose defending title fell victim to a shoulder injury at the home tournament in Sofia, was particularly convincing with his serve. The ATP world champion served twelve aces and scored 82 percent of the point when the first came.
In the match of the day Roger Federer (from 19:30 clock in our LIVE-Scores) meets local hero Robin Haase. Should the 20-time Grand Slam winner enter the semi-finals, he will replace Andre Agassi as the oldest number one in tennis history on Monday. In the last quarter-finals, Zverev confront Andreas Seppi and the Russian qualifier Daniil Medvedev.
Dimitrov’s victory also has consequences for Alexander Zverev in the ranking: In the newly published world rankings, the 20-year-old from Hamburg has to relinquish his fourth place in the Bulgarians.
