Basketball: Bayern Munich wins cup for the first time in 50 years

For the first time in 50 years, Bayern Munich has won the German Basketball Cup. The team of coach Sasa Djordjevic won the final of the top four tournament in Neu-Ulm against Alba Berlin with 80:75 (36:38).

The last time Bavaria had triumphed in 1968. Third place went to host ratiopharm Ulm with a 81:79 (40:41) victory over medi Bayreuth.

With 28 points, Jared Cunningham was the best thrower in Munich, who celebrated their first major title since the 2014 championship. Luke Sikma was the most successful with 14 points for Alba, who would have caught up with Bayer Leverkusen in his tenth cup triumph.

The Bayern had entered the final for the third time in a row on Saturday with an 84:73 semi-final win against Ulm. Berlin had prevailed in the final round against Bayreuth 96:74.
