So the Swiss has returned to the Olympus and will stay in Indian Wells at least until the tournament. Rumor has it that Federer is even considering a start in Dubai to increase his point cushion on Nadal. The Spaniard is expected back in Acapulco next week.
Grigor Dimitrov, final loser against Federer in Rotterdam, has overtaken Alexander Zverev and is now in fourth place. Dominic Thiem’s victory in Buenos Aires narrowed the gap to Germany’s number one, but Thiem has to defend 500 points in Rio de Janeiro this week. Kevin Anderson, winner of the New York Open, has moved past Juan Martin del Potro to ninth place.
The big loser is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who was unable to defend his win in Rotterdam in 2017. The Frenchman lost eight places and is now only 27th. However, there are new career highs for Diego Schwartzman, Adrian Mannarino and Kyle Edmund, who rank 23rd in a row. Andrey Rublev is also pushing forwards after his quarter-finals in Rotterdam:”The Russian is already number 31 in the world. Aljaz Bedene, final loser in Buenos Aires, has also reached a new high point with position 43.
Philipp Kohlschreiber remains second best German in 35th place, Mischa Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff follow in 52nd and 53rd place. With his success at the Challenger in Cherbourg, Maximilian Marterer has improved to 70th place.
Gerald Melzer, the Austrian number two, lost 13 places and is now in 110th place.
