ATP: Gojowczyk fights his way to the round of sixteen at Delray Beach

Davis Cup player Peter Gojowczyk (28) fought his way into the last 16 at the ATP tournament in Delray Beach, Florida. There he meets a local hero.

The world rankings 64. Lukas Lacko from Munich had already been trailing the Slovakian Lukas Lacko in the second set 2:4, but turned away his first defeat of the season and won after 1:41 hours 3:6,7:5,6:1. The German Davis Cup player, who was on the team in Brisbane’s first-round win against Australia but did not play, ended up winning 14 points more than his opponent.

Gojowczyk, who dropped out of last week’s New York round in the last 16, will face sixth-placed John Isner (USA). Gojowczyk is the only German participant in the $622,675 tournament in Delray Beach. Jack Sock already started successfully in the ATP World Tour 250 tournament yesterday as the tournament’s favourite, with Juan Martin del Potro from Argentina in second place in Florida.
