ATP: Marterer defeats Simon twice in tiebreak

Maximilian Marterer was eliminated at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Marseille. The German newcomer was defeated by local hero Gilles Simon with 6:7 (3) and 6:7 (4).

Marterer, who had won a Challenger tournament in Cherbourg, France on Sunday, missed two set points in the second round with a score of 5:4. With the success in Cherbourg, Martrerer, who is supported by Tobias Summerer in Marseille, had catapulted himself to a new career high in the ATP world ranking with rank 70.

Mischa Zverev (Hamburg), the only remaining German in the singles competition, will contest his first-round match in Marseille on Wednesday. Zverev meets Blaz Kavcic, who had slipped into the main draw after David Goffin’s rejection. The game starts at 12:00 noon.
