WTA: Kerber in Dubai continues one round without problems

It took Angelique Kerber just under an hour to move into the second round at the start of the WTA tournament in Dubai: German number one beat Barbora Strycova 6:2 and 6:1.

Kerber outperformed her opponent in all respects, scoring twice as many points as the Czech (56:28). Though the German had to give up her serve once, Kerber in return got the service from Strycova five times. The double major winner was also highly effective at the first serve: Kerber won 77 percent of the points she started with a successful first service.

In round two, the Kieler will now face Sara Errani, who won the qualifiers’ duel against Lesia Tsurenko from the Ukraine. In a direct comparison, the Italian is leading with 2:1 victories – however, all three duels took place in 2012, so they should have little significance.
