ATP: Acapulco, Dubai, Sao Paolo – the way forward for men

Nearly all top players will be honoured this week: In Acapulco, for example, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem will serve. Grigor Dimitrov leads the field in Dubai.

Two tournaments of the ATP World Tour 500 category are scheduled for this week – the one with the bigger Starpower will take place in Acapulco. rafael Nadal is seated at position one and meets Feliciano Lopez on his comeback. Number two of the seed list is Alexander Zverev, with Steve Johnson the German number one has drawn an unpleasant, though feasible lot. Dominic Thiem is number three in Acapulco, and the first round is against Cameron Norrie from Britain, who has played his way into the main draw after qualifying. Caution is advised: Norrie had recently surprised in the Davis Cup in Spain. Mischa Zverev has to deal with Juan Martin del Potro, Peter Gojowczyk has made it a little easier: Delray Beach’s finalist will play the Mexican Lucas Gomez. In addition, the Rio de Jainero final between Diego Schwartzman and Fernando Verdasco will be repeated at the very beginning. In Brazil, the Argentinean had prevailed.

Grigor Dimitrov is the number one in Dubai after Roger Federer’s final cancellation. The Bulgarian will start against Melk Jaziri and could meet Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarter-finals, starting against French qualifier Gleb Sakharov. Florian Mayer hit it harder, and the Bayreuth player gets to deal with the tournament’s number three, Roberto Bautista Agut. Yannick Maden has qualified for the main draw, Damir Dzumhur, the German, now plays against number four. Andreas Haider-Maurer meets Jan-Lennard Struff in the Austrian-German duel.

In Sao Paolo, the journey continues on to ashes. Albert Ramos-Vinolas is the favourite in the ATP World Tour 250 tournament, Fabio Fognini is second. Sebastian Ofner has prevailed in the qualification, Italy’s Marco Cecchinato is waiting in round one. The Austrian number two, Gerald Melzer, plays Guillermo Garcia Lopez from Spain in round one.
