ATP: Struff wins opening match in Dubai against “AHM

The German Davis Cup player Jan-Lennard Struff has reached the eighth-finals at the ATP tournament in Dubai. The 27-year-old Warsteiner defeated the Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer in 57 minutes 6:2,6:4.

Struff followed Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg) into the round of the last 16. That’s where the world rankings-56 meet. either the Japanese Yuichi Sugita in eighth place or the Belarusian Ilya Ivashka. Struff, who scored 13 aces against Haider-Maurer among others, used his second match point on Court 1 after 57 minutes to win. There were a total of seven breaks in the game.

Qualifier Yannick Maden (Stuttgart) will meet Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia in fourth place at the $3.057 million hard court tournament this evening. In addition to ATP world champion Grigor Dimitrov (Bulgaria), only Frenchman Lucas Pouille from the top 20 in the world rankings will compete in the 500cc event. The Swiss tennis idol Roger Federer had cancelled his start in Dubai at short notice.

Already on Monday Kohlschreiber had easily defeated the French qualifier Gleb Sakharov and now meets the 19-year-old Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.
