ATP: Nadal cancels start in Acapulco

Rafael Nadal canceled his start at the ATP tournament in Acapulco. This was announced to the world rankings runner-up at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon (local time).

“My goal and hope was to play this tournament. Unfortunately, I had a lot of pain in my leg again yesterday during my last training session,”said the 31-year-old Spaniard only a few hours before he should have played his first-round match.

Nadal has abandoned or canceled five tournaments in a row (Paris, ATP final, Brisbane, Australian Open, Acapulco), which raises more questions than ever about his health. At the Australian Open the Spaniard had to give up in the quarter-finals against Croatian Marin Cilic because of an injury to the right hip flexor.

The top seed at the ATP tournament in Mexico is after Nadal’s cancellation the German number one Alexander Zverev.
