WTA: Acapulco: Gavrilova freaks out – Kyrgios lags in with tweet

The Australian Daria Gavrilova provided an excitement at the WTA tournament in Acapulco, which also left her countryman Nick Kyrgios not cold.

The Australian fought back in Mexico against Madison Brengle after missing the set and is now in the last sixteen. However, before the final 4-6,6-3 and 6-3 win, the extroverted player had a nasty miss. At a score of 4:6 and 1:3, the 23-year-old produced a double error and had to accept the break.

Gavrilova threw her racket towards the net and hit the approaching ball child by a hair. The racket then slammed against the referee’s chair. Without remorse and still furious, Gavrilova shook her head and expressed her displeasure at the referee’s admonition.

The action was without consequences and the Australian entered the next round – much to the surprise of Nick Kyrgios.

After the Australian had seen the video in the social media he twittered on his profile:”For such an action I would be blocked for six years and would be the headline in the newspapers and on television for a month”.

Kyrgios is not wrong. It is extremely unusual that this action did not result in a warning or even disqualification. Gavrilova was just lucky at that moment that the outburst had no effect on her.

In the past, Kyrgios has often been punished with penalties for various crimes and apparently demands equal rights with his tweet in such cases.
