ATP: Kevin Anderson has no limits

Kevin Anderson has a great chance of making it to the final of the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Acapulco. Roger Federer sees the South African as capable of even higher tasks.

One time, Kevin Anderson flinched briefly in his quarter-finals of the ATP World Tour 500 tournament at Acapulco: After winning the set and an early break in the second set, the South African was almost on his way to the preliminaries in the second set, when Hyeong Chung managed the rebreak to 4-4. Anderson shook himself briefly, took the service away from his opponent and finally entered the semi-finals in a confident manner. Against Jared Donaldson, Anderson is the clear favourite.

After making it to the final of the US Open last year, the 31-year-old was only moderately successful on the ATP tour, scored no more than a victory at any tournament – and missed out on the ATP final in London. At the Australian Open, too, Anderson’s defeat came in round one, but his conqueror Kyle Edmund then made it to the semi-finals of the first major of the year.

In Acapulco, Kevin Anderson seems to find his form again, in time for the big hard court tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. Anderson is sure that his colleagues will appreciate him – even from the very top.

“I believe that the US Open has solved a blockade at Kevin,”says industry leader Roger Federer. Two weeks ago in New York, Anderson probably wouldn’t have believed he was capable of a run like the National Tennis Center.

Meanwhile, Anderson has reached a career high, he is ranked eighth in the ATP World Ranking,”He doesn’t hold back on the court and always gives his best,”Federer continues,”and then there are only a few guys in our sport who have more potential to win a Grand Slam tournament than Kevin.”
