ATP:”Rules ignored”: Ferrero strikes back after Zverev criticism

After Alexander Zverev’s reproachful remarks about the failed cooperation with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, the Spaniard has taken a verbal retaliation. The former world number one accuses Germany’s top player of being undisciplined.

“I told him from day one that it’s not right to be 20 or 30 minutes late for practice every day and that a little more discipline helps him to improve his technique,”said Ferrero, according to the Spanish sports daily Marca.

In the first few months he was more disciplined and respectful, but with increasing self-confidence he failed to follow the agreed rules,”the 38-year-old explained.

Zverev explained the split after only seven months with a fierce argument on the sidelines of this year’s Australian Open:”There was a moment when he was disrespectful to the entire team,”said the 20-year-old after his semi-final move to the ATP tournament in Acapulco on Friday.

In spite of the failed cooperation Ferrero drew a positive conclusion of his time at the side of the world number five:”I still have the experience to have helped him to his first two Masters successes: In Rome I advised him by telephone, in Montreal then personally.
