WTA/ATP: Clear the way for Genie, Vika and Tennys in Indian Wells

The BNP Paribas Open is missing some stars, but with the help of wildcards interesting names have nevertheless slipped into the main field of Indian Wells.

Eugenie Bouchard has to admit one thing: her attraction to fans, but in any case the tournament organisers have not lost their attraction due to the sporting downswing that the Canadian has been experiencing since 2014. So it’s no wonder that Bouchard was awarded a wildcard for the main field of the Combined Event in Indian Wells, which starts on Thursday.

However, Victoria Azarenka’s comeback is more interesting from a sporting point of view: The Belarussian woman has been trying to return to the WTA tour for several months, but she does not fail because of her physical condition, but because of the problems caused by the dispute over her son Leo’s custody. In the state of California, however, Azarenka is on the safe side and can finally serve again. With Leo in tow.

On the women’s side, there is also support for young US women: wildcards are also available for Amanda Anisimova and Claire Liu, both of whom caused a sensation at Grand Slam tournaments in the junior competitions. Caroline Dolehide had shown for the first time last year in Stanford and was also awarded a place in the main field.

Tennys Sandgren stands out from the crowd as a wildcard recipient. The surprise man of the Australian Open is already in 59th position in the ATP world ranking, but Sandgren was outside the cut at Indian Wells. Tournament Director Tommy Haas is also promoting the development of young men’s talents in the US with starting positions for Ernesto Escobedo, Bradley Klahn and Reilly Opelka.
