Rafael Nadal still suffers from a hip injury from Melbourne and had to cancel the Masters tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. Now his doctor gives information about the state of health and the comeback plans of the Spaniard.
The long-suffering Spaniard has to pay tribute to his body again and will not compete in the “Sunshine Double”. Now, his long-term doctorate Angel Ruiz Cotorro has commented on the injury to his protégé. Nadal continues to suffer from a hip injury he sustained at the Australian Open in Melbourne at the end of January.
Shortly before the start in Acapulco Nadal had to withdraw again and is still in rehabilitation.
During a training session with the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the hip injury broke out again and caused a lot of frustration for the Spaniard:”When you feel ready and something like this happens, it affects you and is really hard,”explained Cotorro in an interview with El Pais.
The injury, however, is in an area of the musculature and not in the movement or ligamentous apparatus, which makes the situation not so difficult, the Nadal doctor added. With the cancellation of the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, the world rankings runners-up continues to lose points and slowly loses the connection to front runner Roger Federer. Federer has to defend a total of 2000 points (presenting tournament winner in both tournaments) but is in top physical shape.
With the renewed postponement of Nadal’s comeback, long-term goals are now set. To be precise: the sand court season.
“Rafa will come back when he feels ready. We hope that he is fit for the clay court season – that’s the goal,”added Cotorro.
However, tennis is over for “Rafa”. Dr. Cotorro prescribed a rest period of several weeks:”He (Nadal, Red.) has to take a break of two or three weeks and then we hope for a quick regeneration. We have to watch the injury very closely and will approach the matter without rush. We won’t rush into anything.”
One of them is marked in the calendar of the Spaniard. Paris. French Open and the eleventh title in Roland Garros. For this performance Nadal, Cotorro and Co. to do whatever it takes to get ready for the big showdown.
