Roger Federer has reached the last sixteen at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. In the third round, the Swiss player beat Serbian Filip Krajinovic in clear two sets 6:2,6:1.
“I’m sure that Filip won’t be so easy to beat in the future. I have adjusted well to the conditions and am very satisfied with this match.”
Federer made a strong start to the game and immediately took the serve away from his opponent to 2-0. But the Serbian had three chances for a rebreak in the third game, and he successfully used the last one. A short time later, Krajinovic served despite a foot error in the second serve to 2-2, everything was back in the line.
Afterwards, however, Federer took over the sceptre while his opponent made more and more mistakes. With his usual solid service and creative return game he denied the Masters finalist from Paris-Bercy another win in the first set.
In the second set Krajinovic could hardly find his way into the second set, too dominant was Federer from the baseline. The 36-year-old finished the game after 59 minutes with a service winner.
The Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, who beat his countryman Adrian Mannarino 7:5,4:6,6:1, is now waiting in the round of sixteen. Federer now stands at a balance sheet in 2018 of 14:0.
