WTA: Angelique Kerber wins sequel to Indian Wells

Angelique Kerber won the match against Ekaterina Makarowa, which was interrupted in Indian Wells on Saturday. The Russian defeated the German number one 3:6,6:4 and 6:2.

At the end of the day, Angelique Kerber’s 2:11 hours of hard work was behind her entry into the third round of the BNP Paribas Open. Last year, the Kieler lost to Makarowa at the French Open and in Cincinnati, and the match was also marked by the Russian side. However, the fact that she had witnessed one of only eleven rainy days of the year in Indian Wells helped Kerber, however: especially in the third set, the German Fed Cup player was almost untouchable and fixed her entry in round three.

There it gets to do Kerber with the best friend and double partner of Makarova on the WTA tour: Elena Vesnina. For the latter, the year 2018 is not yet running smoothly, but Vesnina has only the best memories of the tournament in Indian Wells, where she celebrated her greatest success in last year’s individual final against Svetlana Kuznetsova.
