ITF-Tour: Laura Siegemund celebrates successful comeback

Laura Siegemund scored a victory after her ten-month break.

At the ITF tournament in Santa Margherita Di Pula/Italy, which was endowed with 25,000 US dollars, the top seeded winner won her first-round match against Croatian qualifier Tena Lukas 6:1,6:2. In the round of sixteen she will now face Ekaterine Gorgodze from Georgia.

Siegemund had slipped away last year at the WTA tournament in Nuremberg and got a torn cruciate ligament. Shortly before, she had celebrated her greatest success with her victory at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. It is currently ranked 74th, and in August 2016 it was ranked 27th on the world’s highest ranking list.
