WTA: WTA Indian Wells: Angelique Kerber goes down against Daria Kasatkina

Angelique Kerber lost in the quarter-finals of the WTA tournament Indian Wells (live on DAZN) against the Russian Daria Kasatkina and had to accept a severe defeat.

There could be no talk of palpation: Daria Kasatkina started unleashed and promptly grabbed the break against a visibly astonished Angelique Kerber.

The Russian scored seven points in a row before Kerber made her first appearance in the quarter-finals in Indian Wells. Dissatisfied with the sleepy start, Kerber shook his head again and again and was trailing 3-0 after only ten minutes. The 20-year-old managed almost everything: A stop from the textbook and a no-look backhand silce winner for another break early pulled Kerber’s tooth.

Wim Fissette and Philippe Dehaes were two Belgians in the coaching chair, with Fissette and his protégé Kerber having considerably more work than the man on the other side. However, the number ten did not recover from the bad start and went into the catacombs after 22 minutes with 0:6 to win some distance from the disastrous first set.

At the beginning of the second movement the first feeling of success for the woman from Kiel. Kerber opened and fought his way to the first game of the game and the first lead. However, the face of the 30-year-olds did not improve and also the game of the ex-number-one rose only slowly. The longer rallies went largely to the 20-year-old on the other side.

Kerber still had big problems on the serve and had to take the fourth break of the game. During the rally Kerber commented on her own performance: “That’s so bad” Kerber walked across the pitch shaking his head and looked for a solution.

The 30-year-old did not find her and so she had to accept a further loss of serve. After only 58 minutes, Kerber’s 6-0 and 6-2 defeat to the Russian was sealed.
