ATP: Indian Wells: Marach misses double final – Petzschner/Peya in Irving final

Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic have missed the doubles final at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. The current Australian Open winners lost to John Isner and Jack Sock in two sets.

The dream of the fourth final this season has been shattered for Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic. The Austrian-Croatian duo was beaten 3:6 and 2:6 by the local heroes Isner/Sock, who will play for the title against the Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike in the purely American final on Sunday night.

The US boys made 88 percent of their points when the first serve came. Marach/Pavic didn’t stand a chance, at 0:3 in the second set their only breakchance remained unused.

After winning tournaments in Doha, Auckland and Melbourne, Marach and Pavic’s 17 matches of success came to an end in the final of the 500cc event in Rotterdam. Despite the semi-final defeat, the 37-year-old Styrian will continue to rank sixth in the world rankings next Monday.

Philipp Petzschner and Alexander Peya have reached the final at the ATP-Challenger-Tournament in Irving (USA). The German-Austrian team defeated Wesley Koolhof and Artem Sitak (Netherlands/New Zealand) 6-4, 7-5 in the semi-finals.

In the first round the duo had already prevailed over the former world number one Henri Kontinen and his Australian doubles partner John Peers.
