NBA: Marcus Smart from Boston Celtics operates on his thumb

Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics was operated on Friday. As the team reported, the guard had to go under the knife to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. It will be out for about six to eight weeks.

According to insider information from ESPN editor Adrian Wojnarowski, Smart may return at the beginning of the deadline. He’ll be ready in time for the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Smart suffered the injury last Sunday against Indiana Pacers when he crashed hard to the ground. With his wallpapered finger he was on the floor until the end of the game – the Celtics assumed that his finger had been compressed, but tests on Monday revealed the more serious injury.

Thus, the Celtics are still persecuted by bad luck. Besides Smart, Kyrie Irving, Daniel Theis and Gordon Hayward are currently not ready to play.
