ATP: Indian Wells: Roger Federer breaks new serve record

World number one Roger Federer played big at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells and broke another record in his career.

Roger Federer is one of the best players on the tour. The service of the Swiss is not the hardest of the professionals, but one with a lot of precision and variability.

A statistic from Indian Wells shows that the 36-year-old generates rows of points through his serve and often makes his opponents look old on return.

At the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in California, Federer managed for the fifth time in his career not to lose a single first serve in one game. Against the Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, the world number one placed first 25 times in the field and won all 25 points. A 100 percent quota for a premium won is extremely rare.

The last time the 20 times major winner had achieved this was last year at his home tournament in Basel. Frances Tiafoe was the opponent at the time, who was hit by Federer 21 for the first time.

At the Nitto ATP finals 2014 in London against Andy Murray (14) from Scotland and 2010 in Basel against Janko Tipsarevic and (25) Federer also managed to get through the match without any damage.

Most of the first serves, none of which Federer lost, were served by the “FedExpress” against Benjamin Becker in the Tokyo semi-final. Becker tried to return Federer’s ball 29 times and failed either on the ace or as a result of the rally.
