New documentary with Serena Williams in sight: Being Serena runs from the 2. May on the U.S. pay TV channel HBO.
The five-part series is about Serena as a tennis pro, her mother, her family and her comeback: “I don’t know if there’s anything left for me in tennis,” Williams says at the end of the first trailer, “But I’m not finished yet.”
“I can’t wait to share with all of you what I’ve been through this past year. My life has changed completely,” Williams wrote on Instagram.
After her 23rd year of life, the 36-year-old had a lot of fun. Major victory at the Australian Open 2017 announced that she was pregnant and had finally returned to the tour in Indian Wells in early March 2018 after a complicated birth. Here she won two matches and then lost to Sister Venus. In Miami, she lost to Naomi Osaka in the opening match.
In recent years there have been two documentaries starring Serena Williams. In 2012, Venus and Serena, a documentary that sheds light on the careers of the two sisters, was released in 2016, and this documentary focused on Serena’s attempt to win the Grand Slam in 2015.
