Serena Williams (USA) and Andy Murray (Great Britain) could return to the big stage in May. Williams, whose daughter Alexis Olympia was born on September 1, and Murray, who has been plagued by a hip injury for months, are on the list of participants for the French Open in Paris (27 May to 10 June) published on Wednesday.
Williams (36) had last taken part in a Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open 2017 and won her 23rd major title – at that time she was already eight weeks pregnant. In spring 2018 she returned to the WTA tour, but has not yet reached her old level.
Murray, who has been pausing since his quarter-final finish in Wimbledon in July 2017, returned to training at the end of March. Most recently, the 30-year-old had announced that he would skip the clay court season and only return to the grass court season in June.
The list of participants includes 15 German professionals (eight men, seven women). Among them were Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) and the former world number one Angelique Kerber (Kiel).
