Germany’s number one Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe) opens the semi-finals for Germany’s Fed Cup team in Stuttgart against the Czech Republic. The 29-year-old will face two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova in the first singles match on Saturday (12:00/ DAZN).
This was the result of the draw on Friday in Stuttgart’s city hall. Afterwards, two-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber and world number six Karolina Pliskova will face each other.
On Sunday, Görges will play Pliskova and Kerber against Kvitova. Captain Jens Gerlach Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) and specialist Anna-Lena Grönefeld (Nordhorn), who will meet Barbora Strycova and Katerina Siniakova, were nominated for the final double. Changes at short notice are possible. If a nation leads unassailable with 3-0, the fourth singles will not be played anymore, only the doubles will take place.
In Stuttgart, the selection of the German Tennis Federation (DTB) is about to reach the eighth final in the prestigious international competition. At the same time, the match is a revenge for the final failure of 2014, when they lost 3-1 to the Czech team in Prague. Petr Pala’s side have won the title five times in the last seven years, and of eight Fed Cup matches to date, Germany have only won one (1987). The draw at a glance:
