ATP: Jürgen Melzer successfully starts the qualification in Barcelona

Successful start for Jürgen Melzer at the qualifying tournament for the ATP World Tour 500 event in Barcelona: The Lower Austrian defeated Matthias Bachinger in three sets.

Jürgen Melzer has again shown strong nerves: The Davis Cup hero from Moscow defeated Matthias Bachinger from Germany in qualifying for the ATP tournament in Barcelona after 2:15 hours with 6:7 (5), 6:1 and 7:6 (4). Melzer was already leading with a break in the decisive set, but had to accept his opponent’s equaliser.

The next opponent of Melzer, who used his Protected Ranking to get a place in the tableau, will be Ilya Ivashka from Belarus, who had no problems with Kenny de Schepper. Melzer lost against Ivashka in the Davis Cup in Minsk last year in four sets.
