ATP: Zverev new third, Marach further ahead in the race

Rafael Nadal has defended his lead in the ATP world rankings, Alexander Zverev has moved up to third place. In the Doubles Race to London Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic are leading.

Rafael Nadal dominated the field in Monte Carlo – after his 31st Masters 1000 title on the tour but still only 100 points ahead of pausing Roger Federer. Nadal has only defended his 1,000 points from last year, a feat that the Spaniard must also succeed in this week in Barcelona (500) and shortly afterwards in Madrid (1,000) if he wants to retain the top position.

New third is Alexander Zverev, who has overtaken Marin Cilic with his semi-final entry in the Principality. Dominic Thiem has even surpassed his previous year’s points with the quarter-final, and now he has to defend the 2017 final in Barcelona.

In the Race to London, the 2018 classification, Nadal catapulted himself to fourth place, one place ahead of Alexander Zverev. Federer leads here in front of Juan Martin del Potro and Cilic. Dominic Thiem is in eleventh place. Kei Nishikori, finalist in Monte Carlo, made a big leap forward, the Japanese is already at number 14 in the annual charts.

In doubles it still looks good for the German-speaking representatives: Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic lead the race ahead of the Bryans, who lost on Sunday in Monte Carlo. A reunion this week in Barcelona is possible. Alexander Peya and Nikola Mektic are fourth, two positions ahead of Jan-Lennard Struff and Ben McLachlan. These two teams will start in Budapest today. Like Philipp Oswald and Max Mirnyi, who are in eleventh place in the annual ranking.
