WTA: Istanbul: First round out for Mona Barthel

Mona Barthel lost her opening game at the WTA tournament in Istanbul. The world rankings 65th from Neumünster lost to the American Christina McHale 6:7 (4:7), 6:4, 3:6.

McHale also won the fourth comparison against Barthel, for whom it is already the sixth first-round result this year.

The 27-year-old was the only German starter at the 250,000 euro sand court tournament in the metropolis on the Bosporus. Barthel had reached the quarter-finals in Lugano, Switzerland, in mid-April.
