ATP: Jan Lennard Struff lost to Marco Cecchinato in Budapest

The German Davis Cup player lost to Marco Cecchinato of Italy in three sets.

Davis Cup player Jan-Lennard Struff missed his first semi-final on the ATP tour in seven months. Two days after his 28th birthday Marco Cecchinato from Italy lost 7:5, 4:6, 2:6 in Budapest.

Struff started against Cecchinato, number 92 in the world, 31 places lower than the German, concentrated and with a strong serve. With the first break of the game he took the first set, before Cecchinato rang in the second set with the break to the 3:2 turn.

Struff reached the semi-finals in St. Petersburg in September 2017. In the afternoon, Yannick Maden (Stuttgart) will also fight Australian John Millman in Budapest for a place in the semi-finals.

In the late afternoon Struff is scheduled again: In the doubles semi-final alongside Ben Mclachlan against Matwe Middelkoop and Andres Molteni. For Struff and his Japanese partner, the aim is to further improve their position in the Doubles Race to London. At the moment Struff/Mclachlan are in sixth place in the annual ranking.
