ATP: Munich: Maximilian Marterer surprises

Maximilian Marterer caused a big surprise at the ATP tournament in Munich. The 22-year-old from Nuremberg defeated the third seeded Argentinian Diego Schwartzman remarkably clearly with 6-4, 6-2 and entered the quarter-finals of the BMW Open.

For the 73rd in the world rankings, this is only the second round of the last eight after the tournament in Sofia in early February.

Torterer benefited from the high error rate of Schwartzman, currently number 16 in the world rankings, but also played very consistently and callously. In the first set he made the decisive break to 5-4, in the second he took Schwartzman’s serve to 2-1 and 4-1. 1:29 hours later, the fourth match point brought the decision.
