The WTA Premier Tournament in Rome is the last big test before the French Open. Angelique Kerber and Laura Siegemund are two German ladies in the main draw.
While Petra Kvitova and Kiki Bertens are still queuing for the winner of the Caja Magical in Madrid (live today from 6:30 pm on DAZN), in Rome the grid is already ready for the next highlight of the WTA hiking circus. And from the very top, the tableau looks very interesting: The world’s number one, Simona Halep, is waiting for the winner of the game between Viktoria Azarenka and Naomi Osaka.
On her return after a short injury break, Angelique Kerber meets Ekaterina Makarowa, a player with whom she often had problems, for example last year at the French Open. Laura Siegemund has also been hit in Russia, playing against Elena Vesnina. Not in the tableau is Julia Görges, who takes a break.
Defending champion Elina Svitolina is seeded in fourth place, could meet countrywoman Lesia Tsurenko in her first match. Caroline Wozniacki, in second place, plays against a qualifier or Samantha Stosur.
Kvitova, by the way, measures herself in Rome with Johanna Konta, Bertens has taken it a little easier with Maria Sakkari.
