ATP Rome: Flood of cancellations among the men – especially among the “young savages

The ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome has to accept some cancellations from well-known men before the start. It particularly affects the younger generation.

Are the “young savages” running out of air? This seems to be the case at least before the start of the last clay court master in the calendar year. In Rome, among other things, the spectators have to do without the Australian Nick Kyrgios. The 23-year-old is still suffering from an elbow injury and is missing the next big tournament in 2018.

Already in Monte Carlo and Madrid the crowd puller did not start. With the cancellation in Rome, Kyrgios will also be able to put the clay court season behind him and concentrate on the grass court season.

South Korean Hyeon Chung, who had to face Robin Haase 2-6, 6-0 in Madrid, will not be in the match either. This year’s Australian Open semi-finalist has thus come out of the clay court Masters tournaments with moderate success and lost something after his outstanding form at the beginning of the year.

Here the draw in Rome – Thiem and Nadal on collision course again

Andrey Rublev is the third “Young Gun” to cancel the tournament in the Italian capital. The Russian must remain patient and continue to cure the consequences of a back injury. The 20-year-old played his last match on the tour in Monte Carlo when he had to pack his bags against Dominic Thiem. The world’s number 31 then missed the tournament in Barcelona and the 1000cc event in Madrid.

Another high-carat player in the person of Roberto Bautista Agut will not be serving in Rome. The Spaniard will take a break after the tournaments in Munich, Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid.

Steve Johnson, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Ryan Harrison and youngster Daniil Medvedev from the USA slide behind due to the cancellations.
