Two German double victories on the Challenger Circuit were celebrated this week.
Philipp Petzschner and Tim Pütz struck in Aix-en-Provence, France: At the sand court event, endowed with 127,000 euros, the two unseeded players won the final 6:7 (3), 6:2,[10:8] over the Argentinian-French pairing Guido Andreozzi/Kenny de Schepper.
Petzschner/Pütz had won in the semi-final against their compatriots Mats Moraing/Oscar Otte. It was their second joint tournament victory – they had already won the Challenger tournament in Wroclaw in 2015.
Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies also ran brilliantly: At the Challenger in Rome (64,000 Euro) the Germans, seeded three, won the final against the top duo Sander Gille/Joran Vliegen with 6:3, 2:6,[10:4]. After last year’s victory in Meerbusch, this was also the second joint tournament triumph.
At the ITF tournament in Krakow, Poland, Pascal Meis won the tournament by beating Latvia’s Jannis Podzus in three sets.
In the women’s event, Andrea Petkovic made it to the semi-finals of the $100,000 ITF future in Cagnes-Sur-Mer, where she lost to Dayana Yastremska from Ukraine 2-6, 1-6. Top seeded Carina Witthöft was already eliminated in round one.
