WTA: Laura Siegemund fails in first round of Rome

Fed Cup player Laura Siegemund (Metzingen) has already been eliminated in the first round of the WTA tournament in Rome. Last year’s Stuttgart winner lost her match against the Russian Elena Vesnina 6:7 (5:7), 2:6

This means that only the former world number one Angelique Kerber is still represented at the sand court tournament, which is endowed with 3.35 million dollars. In the first round on Tuesday, she will play Zarina Diyas from Kazakhstan.

Siegemund’s match only started with a delay after hours of rain interruption. The number 255 in the world rankings lost four service games to her 200 higher ranked opponent, but had to accept six breaks at the same time. After 1:44 hours, the Russian turned her first match point.
