Juan Martin del Potro suffered an injury at the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome. In his match in the last 16 against David Goffin, the Argentinian had to give up in the final phase of the second set at 2:6, 5:4 due to pain in the groin area.
The “Tower of Tandil” made anything but a fit impression throughout the match. Del Potro had to lose the first set after 32 minutes due to two service losses.
At the beginning of the second set, the winner of the Indian Wells Masters event took a medical timeout at 1:1 in the middle of the game, even leaving the field. When he returned to the square, he seemed to be in full possession of his powers again.
He took a 4-2 lead and after Rebreak Goffins, he again took the Belgian off the serve for 5-3. At 5-4, the Argentinian even had two set points, but could not use either. A little later, he walked to the net to shake Goffin’s hand.
Thus it is also clear that Goffin is potentially Alexander Zverev’s next opponent. The German has to play the British Kyle Edmund (NOW in LIVETICKER) on Thursday afternoon.
