Alex De Minaur has got the last fixed place for the main field of the French Open. The Australian tennis federation, which is entitled to a wild card through a cooperation with its French colleagues, decided to send the 19-year-old to the start in Paris.
Australian De Minaur was 112th in the world rankings at the relevant time when the entry list for the second major tournament of the year was fixed and clearly missed the cut of 101. Now, however, he can expect to compete in Paris.
This is also the eighth wild card holder for Roland Garros. The responsible persons from France gave six free tickets to their compatriots. The most prominent name is Nicolas Mahut, who was only one place ahead of de Minaur at the deadline.
Noah Rubin prevailed in the USTA-organized qualifying tournament and may use the wild card of the US-American federation.
With Steve Darcis, Andreas Haider-Maurer and Yoshihito Nishioka three players are represented in the main field by their Protected Ranking.
In the women’s event, Taylor Townsend took victory in the US preliminaries. The Australian ladies will play their wild card directly in Paris in the coming days in a grid of eight players.
The French players will be led by Pauline Parmentier, who was most recently also in the French Fed Cup team by Yannick Noah.
