WTA: Hobgarski fails in Nuremberg at the start

Katharina Hobgarski (Neunkirchen) was eliminated in the first round of the WTA tournament in Nuremberg. The 20-year-old lost to Lara Arruabarrena from Spain 6:7 (6:8), 1:6.

For the world number 310, who came into the main field thanks to a wildcard, the match against the world ranking 94th Arruabarrena was the first game on the WTA tour this year.

This means that there are still five German players in the field in Nuremberg. The second seed Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe), who had cancelled for the Masters in Rome, will play Kristyna Pliskova from the Czech Republic in the first round. Carina Witthöft (Hamburg) and Mona Barthel (Neumünster) meet in a German duel. Andrea Petkovic (Darmstadt) will start with the Romanian Sorana Cirstea, qualifier Anna Zaja (Sigmaringen) will play against the Czech Katerina Siniakova.
