French Open: Qualification 1st round: Hanfmann, Novak and Melzer continue – Ofner out

The first qualifying round for the French Open is over and there is both good and bad news for the German and Austrian fans.

From a red-white-red perspective, the first qualifying day was an almost complete success. Especially Dennis Novak and Jürgen Melzer delivered great games.

Novak beat Evan King 6-0 and 6-3 in just 45 minutes and continue to dream of qualifying for the showdown in Paris.

Jürgen Melzer had more trouble in his match against Gleb Sakharov and fought his way through in three sets. After almost two hours Melzer won 6:2, 4:6 and 6:1.

Sebastian Ofner, on the other hand, has to check off his participation in the Paris Grand Slam after the first round. Daniel Gimeno Traver lost 4:6 and 4:6 against the sand court player.

Gerald Melzer, who lost 6:7 (4) and 2:6 to the Italian Allessandro Giannessi, is also finished.

Yannick Hanfmann made the start for the German guards in the French Open qualifying and lived up to his role as favourite against Christopher Eubanks from the USA. With 7:6 (5) and 7:5 the man from Karlsruhe won by a narrow margin.

Tobias Kamke also celebrated a two-set victory and won 6-2 and 6-4 against the Australian Alex Bolt.
