Mira Antonitsch has reached the semi-finals of the ITF-Future-Tournament in Antalya/Turkey after an almost one year break.
Antonitsch beat seven seeded Belgian Margaux Bovy and in the quarter-finals the Romanian Oana Georgeta Simion 7:5, 6:7 (4), 6:2. 6:1, 1:6, 2:6 defeated Czech Magdalena Pantuckova in the semifinal of the $15,000 tournament.
Antonitsch was condemned to watch for almost a year because of a bone marrow edema in her ankle, her last appearance was in the qualification for the WTA tournament in Nuremberg in 2017.
Her good performance in Antalya was all the more important because the 19-year-old would lose all “old” points at the end of May, leaving her without a place in the ranking. “In contrast to the men, there is no protected ranking for the women who are placed lower. And without a ranking position it is difficult to get into tournaments,” explained her father Alex Antonitsch. Two further events are currently planned in Antalya.
Mira Antonitsch had reached her highest ranking to date in June 2017 with 507th place.
