Dominic Thiem has won the continuation of his quarter-finals at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament against Guillermo Garcia Lopez and will meet Dusan Lajovic later this afternoon.
On Thursday the darkness had delayed the end of the last quarter-finals of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Lyon, the continuation on Friday took place under the best lighting conditions. And in the end Dominic Thiem won 6:7 (4), 7:6 (0) and 6:4 after a total playing time of 2:57 hours.
The alleged decision in favor of the Austrian was made in the seventh game of the third set, after Thiem was unable to use two break points at 2:2. Two games later Garcia Lopez managed to catch up 0:40, but Thiems put a forehand into the net at the fourth opportunity.
Garcia Lopez, however, did not let up and immediately regained the break. Thiem, on the other hand, had now found a desire for the return game, took the lead with a forehand shot 5:4. This time, the 24-year-old from Lichtenwörth did not let anything burn and certainly served 15.
Thiem will face Dusan Lajovic in the semifinal round (second match after 14:30). The other semi-finalists are Cameron Norrie from the UK and local hero Gilles Simon. Thiem has an impeccable 4-0 win over Lajovic.
